Synopsis:
In the not-so-distant future, a team at the International Moon Base prepares to return to Earth when they receive the most horrifying news of their lifetimes. A gigantic alien spacecraft has been detected heading towards Earth, and it will arrive in eight hours.
They are left with a harrowing decision on their hands: flee or make a last-ditch attempt at stopping the object before it reaches Earth. As the team sets to work, we follow their personal stories unfold. Commander Phillip Williams, is a hard-working yet conflicted man, who bears the weight of responsibility of the team’s decisions on his shoulders. He demands respect and expects everyone to work as hard. Lieutenant Norma Jackson, follows orders meticulously and fears disappointing Commander Williams. She struggles with the thoughts and memories of her potential last hours on earth, and wonders if her strict adherence to the commander’s orders is truly the best course of action. Doctor Irene Patel, brilliant roboticist, is quick-thinking, and becomes increasingly obsessed with communicating with the aliens. She has won several scientific awards in robotics and laser development. Pilot David Lee, commercial pilot and jokester of the team. David just wants to have fun and enjoy his time in space. One of the first commercial pilots to graduate with honors at the Space And Aviation Academy. As they near the climax of their mission, the mood shifts to an intense and chilling atmosphere. The tension continues to build as the team launches their last-ditch effort to take down the alien spacecraft. The spacecraft seems impervious, but the team never loses their determination. As their time runs out, and their fate seems certain, the team’s camaraderie and fighting spirit is highlighted in their final struggle to save the Earth. In a surprising turn of events, their intrepid efforts actually do cause considerable damage to the alien spacecraft, altering its attack and avoiding a catastrophic invasion on Earth. The team is hailed as heroes but are forever changed by their experience. Despite their success, the helplessness, fear, and humanity they experience will forever haunt them. In the end, "8" is a harrowing cinematic depiction of an all-out battle between humanity and an extraterrestrial force, highlighting the importance of courage, bravery, and humanity in the face of the unknown. As the credits roll on-screen, we are left with a lingering sense of foreboding, a reminder of the eerie unknown and the impending danger that may loom on the horizon.
